H. RITCH1NGS RECEIVED APR 16 1374 (212) 986-6622 April 9, 1974 Dr. Leo P. Vernon, Director of Research Brigharu Young University Provo, Utah 8-6401 Re: Ultra-High Pressure Press: H. T. Hall British'Patent No. 847,067 __ Dear Dr. Vernon: Paragraph IV~(2) of our invention administration agreement requires us to give you written notice of our intention to abandon any foreign patent on a Brigham Young invention which we have accepted for administration and have patented abroad. This letter will serve as notification of our decision that continued maintenance of British Patent No. 847,067 on Dr. Hall's press is not justified by licensing prospects in that country and we therefore propose to permit the patent to lapse by non-payment of the annual fee when this next becomes due. We checked both with McCartney Manufacturing Company, the firm licensed to produce Hall presses, and Megadiamond Corporation, the firm which has been licensed to produce commercial-grade synthetic diamonds in their Hall press, and neither firm would be adversely affected by the lapsing of the British patent. If the University wishes to take over the, British patent and maitain it in force by paying the annual fee henceforth - it will expire in 1975 - we will be pleased to assign it to BYU or to the University's nominee. If we do not hear from you within the sixty-day period stipulated by the agreement's Paragraph IV-(2) we will take steps to permit the patent to lapse. Sincterely yours, RHR:pk cc: Dr. H.
